Abandoned Burj Al Babas Castle Village in Turkey

The Burj Al Babas project site is located right near the town of Mudurnu. In the early 2000s, Mudurnu and its hot springs attracted the attention of real estate investors and developers, including Sarot, a real estate conglomerate that built two hotels in the area. The project promises to have a magnificent Turkish-style swimming pool, shopping center, entertainment and many other items.

However, the project has caused fierce controversy among Mudurnu resident groups. Some argue that Burj Al Babas will help boost the local economy, while others have criticized the project as completely disregarding culture and possibly putting pressure on the town's infrastructure.

However, after the financial crisis in 2018, when both the real estate market and the global economy deteriorated, the Turkish lira depreciated, Sarot declared bankruptcy, and construction stopped. Although many villas appear to be completed on the surface, all infrastructure of the project area is not yet complete.
